Delicious Plant Based Food Pairings to Help you Improve your Cooking Skills (Part 1)

Last week I gave you 5 simple tips to start improving your cooking skills, and one of those was to start getting familiar with food pairings. I got so excited that I started writing today's blog post almost immediately! Food pairings, aka foods that just go together like two little peas in a pod are what have helped me elevate my cooking the most, especially as a recipe creator, since 90% of the time I'm not cooking tried and true recipes but developing new ones (yes... it's an illness... yes, my husband is a happy man when I don't mess things up too much!). 

When you're on this quest of improving your cooking skills, when you want to feel more confident in the kitchen, come up with new ideas and eventually learn how to cook without using a recipe, understanding food pairings is such a fantastic tool. I'm not talking about food and wine pairings, although these are great to learn too if you're a wine lover. I'm also not talking about the traditional and famous food duos like peanut butter and jelly, or caramel and sea salt, or french fries and ketchup, cookies and milk. I'm talking about going right back down into basic ingredients, and which ones go so well together you can build an entire meal on just a simple flavor combination.

A trip to snowy mountains and the best dinner ever, by one of our "My Brownble" members!

Some weeks are simply extra special, and this was definitely one of those. We had a long weekend of filming for Brownble ahead, so we deicided to take a little day trip up to the sierra mountains and have a totally fun snow day and some much needed R&R since we've been working non-stop around here. It was also extra special because for the first time since adopting Vega, we would be taking our her to meet snow possibly for the first time in her life. Nala, our eldest pooch, is a snow expert and it's her absolute favorite thing in the world, so we had a pretty good idea that Vega would have a blast too. She went CRAZY! We shot so many videos of her, and you'll get to see some footage soon since I'm sure these will make it into our next Brownble intro. There's something about watching animals jumping and leaping and running with joy that just fills your heart. It was just what I needed. It was a hard day to top, but we finished it with the perfect cherry on top of the cake since one of our My Brownble members and friend, invited us over for dinner, in which we were served the most amazing vegan food. Happy 2016 everybody! It's so nice to be back in the blog this week now that the new year has rolled in. I hope you all got a chance to see the special New Year's Eve post I wrote for you last week. We've made the commitment to have the healthiest start to the year and basing our meals as much as possible on whole plant-based foods that our bodies will thank us for. All the videos and recipes coming your way will be super simple to make, delicious, and extremely healthy for you.

I have to tell you that I love the new year. It's the perfect moment for a fresh start, especially when it comes to changing our daily habits. There's so much momentum associated with this time of year that I like to take advantage of that and use it to make changes in my life. One of those changes this year was using part of my Christmas break to completely revamp my kitchen. We cleaned, tossed, fixed, re-organized and put a ton of methods in place so that it's always a nice welcoming space that is ready for you to cook in at the drop of the hat. I can't tell you what a difference this has made in the way we eat! We'll be talking about getting organized really soon so stay tuned. I hope you're all having a very inspiring start to the year, and as we always do on Mondays, we're kicking off the year with our recent vegan meals, straight from our kitchen table, in the hopes that some of these dishes will inspire you in your kitchen.
