Hello my lovely listeners and readers! Boy it feels like ages since we’ve hung out together in the podcast and the blog (other than the yummy recipes we’ve been posting. I’ve missed you so much! What was supposed to be our 3 week winter break from the podcast turned into a two month hiatus and in today’s podcast episode I explain what kept me away for so long, how the year started, lessons learned thanks to a gorgeous Japanese woman and other ramblings, and of course, I let you in on all the nitty gritty details of what’s to come this year at the Brownble Podcast and in our blog.

5 Reasons Why Food Matters that Have Nothing to Do with Nutrition

In this wellness era that we’re currently living in, it can be a bit challenging to be a blogger who talks about the great change that veganism could create in the world, and who also talks about improving your relationship with food, leaving dieting and restriction behind AND also be someone who is a trained cook. We’ll have a post soon in which I’ll talk about which of these aspects of me came first, and which followed, but one thing is for sure, nothing has preceded my love of food and cooking, my passion for ingredients and flavor combinations, or my undying love for reading cookbooks like they were novels in the New York Time’s Bestseller list. If there’s one thing you can be sure I am, and always will be, it’s a cook.

Food is so important to me, it makes up such a huge part of my day, and once upon a time we had an unhealthy relationship, sure, but it was precisely my issues with food that brought me where I am today, and gave me all those big aha! moments that made me understand why food is so important.

I get questions from our readers and listeners almost every single day, and so many revolve around nutrition, weight, and the fear we’ve developed over certain foods. It’s common in this wellness era, and especially within the vegan arena, in which making a switch to a kinder alternative has sometimes gotten mixed up with so many rules of “shoulds” and “shouldn'ts”.

Our 100th Episode! Your Questions Answered (Part 2)

Boy did we have an exciting 100th episode party in the podcast last week. I had intended to make it just one episode but halfway through we thought that it would be so much better as a two-parter, and today of course, it’s time for part 2!

Our 100th Episode! Your Questions Answered! (Part 1)

Having Brownble in our lives has been so strange. I can remember the day we filmed the very first video like it was yesterday. I remember the day we hit the publish button on our online program and the day the first member arrived, like it happened last week, and still, it feels like we’ve been doing this forever.

It’s been three years so far and I honestly can’t remember what we did with our time before Brownble was such a huge part of it!

I can also remember the day we started the podcast, and how Carlos and I got dressed and went out to brunch to celebrate, planning to film the announcement video when we got back from eating our vegan croissants. We left the café, and we said, let’s film it right here, right now, walking down the street (it was the most gorgeous spring day). So we then proceeded to walk up and down a street like loony birds because something kept happening every time we tried it. Finally, we got this, and you can tell I was way too excited, totally out of breath, and a total novice at the walk and film part of the equation. Here it is just for fun, just the same:

Lessons Learned in Parks Part 2: On Body Image and Body Diversity

If you read or listened to last week’s episode you probably heard all about the happy-go-lucky dog and the fountain kids that taught me a big lesson when it comes to going vegan. In today’s episode and post on lessons learned in parks this summer, I’m going to share what happened when I was surrounded by hundreds of people, within an enclosure, and everyone was wearing swimming attire and having fun in the sun. It of course has to do with body image, and so much of the content we’ve already talked about here, in series like our Bikini Revolution Series (part 1, part 2 and part 3), and our Body Image Series (part 1, part 2, part 3, and part 4).

One thing you need to know about me is that although I love the fun of a theme or amusement park, and especially the childlike vibes I get from being in a place like that, I also have a severe dislike of rollercoasters, seemingly scary or dangerous rides, or anything that is meant to trick me into believing I’m about to plummet to my death. Carlos on the other hand, loves this! He loves the adrenaline, he loves the paralyzing fear beforehand, he loves the seconds on the top of a rollercoaster and that 3 second linger before the fall. He’s a weirdo. I’m more like a dog, if I see a glass floor with a ravine underneath I ‘aint stepping on that thing!

Culinary Medley of Weirdness

The other day a friend heard me talking about all the delicious Russian dishes I used to have as a kid, and she asked me: "what exactly is Russian cuisine like?" Whenever old friends hear me talking about food, even if its the friends I grew up with, someone always asks me "what exactly did you eat as a kid?".  I get why they're surprised. I was born and raised in Latin America, but I'm fluent in the art of pancake and Mac and cheese making, I also enjoy the strange flavor combos of Eastern Europe, and I can make an arepa like the best of them, not to mention the best German platter ever, don't even get me started on chupe, a typical Peruvian soup. Did I mention the fact that Spanish paella is a regular at our house? So yes, "culinary medley of weirdness" is what I ate as a kid, and this continues to this day.

Why talk about this in a post and podcast episode? As you know one of my missions at Brownble is to get you back in the kitchen, and today I'm going to tell you some family stories (of the culinary and passport kind) in the hopes that you start finding your very own style of cooking.

I've always told you that even though cooking was one of my biggest passions before going vegan, it was leaving meat and dairy behind that really brought my cooking to a whole new level. I loved the challenge of having to find vegan alternatives, and I think I also loved how freeing it was. There was no risk of undercooking the chicken, and no risk of salmonella when licking the spoon after making a cake. No overcooking steak. Vegan food was all about truly playing around with ingredients and having fun with them.

In My Cocoon

Hello my lovelies! Today we're having another one of our more informal/personal episodes in the podcast. That means we won't have a fully written version of this one, but you'll of course be able to listen to everything in audio format!
