It’s that time of year in which many of us spend double the amount of time in the kitchen and of course on Pinterest looking at all the gorgeous holiday decor and recipes. This year I had to live vicariously through you for Thanksgiving (since my kitchen is going through a BIG remodel), but as you can imagine, the second the kitchen is finished I’ll be going bananas with the candy canes and Christmas decor. The fact that my dream kitchen will probably be ready just in time for Christmas makes it all the more exciting, since it will be the first time I’ll be cooking for the many holiday gatherings we host in a kitchen that has space for all my culinary adventures. 5 Reasons Why Food Matters that Have Nothing to Do with Nutrition

In this wellness era that we’re currently living in, it can be a bit challenging to be a blogger who talks about the great change that veganism could create in the world, and who also talks about improving your relationship with food, leaving dieting and restriction behind AND also be someone who is a trained cook. We’ll have a post soon in which I’ll talk about which of these aspects of me came first, and which followed, but one thing is for sure, nothing has preceded my love of food and cooking, my passion for ingredients and flavor combinations, or my undying love for reading cookbooks like they were novels in the New York Time’s Bestseller list. If there’s one thing you can be sure I am, and always will be, it’s a cook.

Easy Peasy Vegan Entertaining, Tips for Feeding a Non-Vegan Crowd, Hosting Delicious Dinner Parties and more

When I was growing up my house was always full of the most interesting characters. My mom was an archaeologist and for a very long time worked in the science and art museums in town, which meant my house was filled with artists, scientists, writers, adventure seekers and sometimes a combination of all four. This meant two things, I was blessed to grow up in a house where I saw a lot of people living their lives in so many different ways. Some were married, others were not, some were gay, some were straight, some had high paying jobs, others had several low paying jobs, some were the corporate type and came in suits, others were hippies who loved living off the grid. Some had children, some had cats. 

It also meant that there was ALWAYS food being served at our house. Perhaps it's the reason why people were always hanging out there! My mom was known for inviting people over for full English teas (cucumber sandwiches, buttery scones and all), in the middle of the tropical heat and weather of Venezuela, might I add.

Our Thanksgiving, Behind the Scenes and Lessons Learned!

We're back! We took a little one week hiatus from the blog and podcast because we were soaking up the sun, and enjoying a little family reunion after almost 4 years without seeing each other. We went to Panama City and Playa Blanca in Panama, and you'll be hearing all about it soon, including of course an in depth post all about whether Panama is vegan friendly or not (cliff hanger!), which you'll get to read in a little guest article we'll be writing for The Nomadic Vegan. In the meantime though, I owed you our behind the scenes post and episode of our little vegan Thanksgiving. Although it feels like it was ages ago, it's actually perfect timing because the ideas I'll share with you, and the very important lesson I learned, will help you a ton if you're planning to host a vegan holiday dinner or lunch, and even if you're planning to take vegan options with you to your holiday gatherings. I sometimes call Thanksgiving the test run for Christmas, since I tend to experiment a bit more for T-day and have everything perfectly rehearsed for Christmas when we usually have more guests and more food will be served.
